Whittlesey Peterborough and Fenland Artist - James Green Art

Testimonials and reviews of James Green and his artwork

james green artist There have been very few artists in the last couple of decades who have attempted to produce quality piscatorial artwork and little wonder. Most anglers are extremely critical of the depiction of their favourite subject matter and are a hard-to-please bunch. It takes an artist of a very high standard indeed who can satisfy the demand of the art customer today and especially so within the angling community. To find an artist who has not only the talent to produce a desirable original but also the business acumen to present the work in an affordable manner such as these lithos is a rarity indeed. But here is an artist, James Green, who is an angler and therefore one who understands an angler's demand for quality and accuracy in work of this kind. Well recommended."

whittlesey artist As England’s most capped female flyfisher, I could not believe the incredible beauty and accuracy of the fish art by James Green. Stunning use of blended airbrush technique, together with his natural artistic abilities allows James to portray both brown and rainbow trout in all their glory. The brownie being depicted as predator; sedately searching a food source, where in contrast, the rainbow is seen leaping whilst in fight with the flyfisher (complete with fly), brilliantly portrayed by the artist. A 'must have' for any flyfisher!”

peterborough artist About Misty: I've been looking for a Fenscape I could live with for over 20 years. I saw yours and immediately recognised Crowland Abbey. When I later studied it more closely, I realised that I had watched that view every working morning for many years as I drove to Crowland along the High Bank from Spalding. Thank you for producing something I'll always treasure.

peterborough artist About Tornado: Your drawing is fautless and I think this work will easily put you into the first rank of railway artists in this country and given the high public profile of Tornado could be a sell out too.

peterborough artist About Tornado: An incredible result James.I always use the late great Terence Cuneo as the benchmark for paintings of steam engines and I'm sure he would have been pleased with such a picture. He claimed to fight shy of painting valve gear using steam to mask the detail but you have handled it masterfully. In a word "Brilliant"

peterborough artist About Bluebell Wood: This has turned out beautifully! It was so great to see it all come together through the WIPs you uploaded. The details are astounding, from the leaves to the bark of the trees to the foliage on the ground. The bluebells really provide a nice splash to the otherwise earthy-toned color palette! Also, the lens flares - I noticed them upon reading the description on your website and I am amazed! They really aren't something one would normally see in a landscape painting and I like it.

Below is just a small selection of the hundreds of comments which he received after the award...

About Flag Fen:
In many ways perhaps a simple scene, Ancient Dawn (Flag Fen) by James Green presents through masterful execution a glimpse of the extraordinary within a setting initially mute... and thus, ultimately, all the more magical.

In early June, Whittlesey artist James Green produced an original painting in front of the whole of the Farcet school. A couple of weeks later, James went back to the school and was the resident artist for a whole week in which he and all of the KS2 children worked together to reproduce the painting on an impressive scale.

"Our work with James Green has been a great success, what started as a low key possibility has turned into one of the most positive and powerful events of the school year. Once we shared thoughts about what we wanted to achieve (a lasting testimony to the unique view from our school field) James was full of ideas about how to translate the scene into a large and imposing permanent reminder of our surroundings. We were just launching a new, whole school topic studying our local area and the picture became the focus point for understanding the unusual and powerful images of the Victorian brick pit chimneys and the modern face of the wind turbines.
James painted the original work in school, in the hall, working with us throughout one whole day. The children were fascinated, watching and questioning James about his work. James welcomed many visitors through lunch time and lesson times. This was valuable in itself as it gave a really positive message about using one’s talents and future employment possibilities for the children. The next stage was the creation, under James’ careful guidance, of an enlargement of the original, this took a week and James became a familiar, friendly face. Each KS2 child added their own touch to the enlarged piece which is now on display in the school hall. The children experienced working with an airbrush for the first time and also used collage and printmaking to complete the work. They are fantastically proud of it, as we all are. It has generated great interest amongst parents and also with community members following attendance at the end of the project during our special ‘exhibition’.
This has been a remarkable experience and one that I would recommend to all; the benefits and learning opportunities for the children have been huge, but the process has also served as a really special centre-piece to a new and exciting topic. It has been great to work with a talented and dedicated artist, but one who is able to relate well to children and to translate his ideas into an accessible activity for all."
