Black 5 painting Willesden 1963 - Stage 5

Here is a close up of my latest painting I've been working on. The painting has been viewed by some railway workers who worked at Willesden sheds in the 60's and their comments have been invaluable, helping me get the correct amount of rust and colours on the black 5 engines just right for this era which the painting is set.

Black 5 painting Willesden 1963 - Stage 4

The end is now in sight for this painting. The details of the main Black 5 engine are now being put down and hopefully you can start to see the rust and grime starting to come through - a typical look in the final last years of steam.

Pleased with how this is progressing.

Black 5 painting Willesden 1963 - Stage 2

This painting is around 50% complete. As usual I'm using acrylic inks, goauche and watercolour all mixed together. The painting measures around 27 x 19 inches.

Black 5 painting Willesden 1963 - Stage 1

This is a fairly complex painting I'm working on here with lots going on in the picture, therefore getting the layers of the paint in the right order is crucial to the success of this painting. The location is Willesden Shed Yard in1963. It is a step in a new direction for me as my previous railway paintings have mostly been based on the preserved era.
